Danny (on the right) with Harro - sadly also no longer with us - at (one of the many) Cocktail Parties
Danny was born in Canada and came to Australia in the 80s. Danny worked afternoon shift as a metalworker at Rance & Co. He also had a job as a telemarketer and got to know Pickles as a phone collector for ‘Constable Care’ in Perth.
He used to drink at the Wembley Hotel with Docker & Don, and joined the DAGS in the early 90’s.
He’d previously been employed in a sex/porn video shop in Sydney. On one occasion a bloke asked him to have sex with his (the customer’s) wife while he watched – the one condition was he wasn’t to kiss her!
He was married to Johanna who memorably proposed to him at a Mystery 9, they had a daughter Sarah. He left Johanna for a woman called Aggie. He occasionally brought her son along to golf.
He didn’t mind a drink: on the SW tour before he died he didn’t have a pee for 3 days – that was probably a clue that all was not well, although everyone thought it was a huge joke at the time.
Some memories with the DAGS:
· He parred the back 9 at Hamersley and at one point was on a 12 handicap
· On tour in Qld he was leaning over a muddy lake with Murray holding on to him to retrieve his ball – you can guess the rest – Clive was in the group and when DM went under he never cracked a smile
· Again in Qld, he organized an interesting experience for Rowdy – I think they made a film about it – Joe was with DM drinking port and having cigars while Rowdy enjoyed himself.
· He fell over and demolished a glass coffee table at Bruce's bucks night
· He introduced the club to Canadian Club on a SW tour, and got 2 cases of it in, as he convinced most DAGs to drink it
· The week after he died, Danny won the 100 club, so the money went on the bar and he bought the club a drink for the last time
Danny was a lovable rogue and every DAG has his own story. He only lived to 49, but he packed a lot into those years. He was with Aggie when he died of lung cancer in March 2002. The funeral was held on the 13th hole at Wembley Tuart. The coffin was on the fairway where Mole and Fintan hit two balls off the deck. Bob Dylan was played and Joe gave the eulogy.
