11 April at Marri Park - Winners & Grinners
20 players turned out at a sun drenched Marri Park today for the Par comp for club trophies. Bruce’s guest Charlie came out for a game, thinking we seemed a nice bunch of guys. Our Charlie stayed home to save confusion.
ON COURSE:
· Before the course actually – Steve remembered (that he had forgot) his golf shoes. He remembered at the exact same point on the freeway that he remembered 2 weeks ago. Uncanny - this is becoming a habit!
· Bruce’s drive on #1 was sensational, he sent it low between the 2 guard trees on the fairway, and it rolled and rolled to a respectable posi in the end. Nice drive Browser.
· Bruce lands in the black hole of Calcutta on the right approaching the 11th green. He walks down near the water and his feet slid out and bang – on his arse. Twice. Then he somehow lobbed a shot out of there right up near the flag for 3 – impossible!
· Charlie on the 8th hole, walking down the fairway gas bagging to Bruce, forgot about his E-buggy, which was spinning it’s wheels stuck behind a tree, digging a horrible hole. Come on Charlie.
· Wilbur on the 15th just caught the very top of the ball off the tee, it banged into the ground, went 5m vertical, and 1m horizontal, for a ladies. Not good Wilbur.
· And Charlie again on the 15th P4 was in the trees near the green for 3, with a fairly straight forward 40m bunt to the green. He lines up however, aiming for the 16th tee bed (why? who knows? He thought it was the green?) and his aim was true. Deesh, he ended up with 7.
· JB did a Carlton, given he had 5 plusses on the front 9 to turn at plus 2 and was most likely Clubhouse leader at the turn. The second 9 was not the best – the long putt on 17 for a half prevented 9 minuses! Much to the chagrin of a couple of his playing partners.
· Wilbur got in Lefty Lindsay’s ear on the last, urging him to slice it R to L around the corner, a bold shot. Linds windy’d it, grrrrrr.
· And Tony approaches Charlie (at the bar post game) and says ”Oh hi, welcome, I’m Tony, and you owe me $5”. Geez Tony you could probably have broken that a little gentler. Here’s a guy (younger than all of us) who may want to join the DAGS, and who now feels that we are NOT a nice bunch of guys. Crikey.
· It seemed we were on course for a very long time. Estimates ranged from 5:00hrs from Steve and Muzz, to 5:30 from Andy, all the way down to an official 4:23 from Charlies My Score App. Everyone knew that was BS, come on Charlie, we’re way smarter than all that tech crap.
PAIRS GAMES:
· Quiet Achievers (Brad & Pete) 6 got rolled by The Gee Gees (Ged & Barfly) 7. All over on 17, Geoff the difference for the winners, finding the fairway far more often than not. Pete the difference for the losers, 110 shots!
· Talking Heads (Muzza & Erin) 6 got home over The Generation Gap (OJ & Willy) 5. Tony didn’t do enough according to him, Muzza and Erin steady and got the win.
WINNERS:
· A countback had to be called to separate two contenders on -2 with Erin taking second place. Well done Erin.
· And Wilbur, on the back of some BIG driving took out the day on -2, for the Club Trophy. Well done Wilbur.
Till next Time,
Pete
